Why AI won’t substitute coaches.
ChatGPT has been the next huge thing to appear in our society. Its usefulness is unimaginable right now and it could be a game changer when it comes to medicine, technological advancements and many other areas. It can instantaneously gives us answers to most of our questions and help with things like recipe ideas, financial advice and planning trips.
It is common sense to assume AI will substitute many things in the future, including some jobs. So why do I say that fitness coaches are gonna an exception to that?
Because of the human aspect of it.
Don’t get me wrong, the people who simply want to drop a few pounds or put on some muscle will most definitely be content in using AI. Macro suggestions and pre-programmed workout routines are easy to follow and easy to create. However, the people who want to to take their fitness to the next level (either by using fitness as a mean to a goal, or to find their true Purpose, or to make meaningful changes in their lives) will benefit most from having an actual person on their side, who they can talk to about any issues and brainstorm ways to tackle their obstacles.
So what I believe will happen is that a coach who can only prescribe reps and sets will probably be out of a job. But those who can be an important person for their client, through accountability, support, encouragement and guidance, will have more opportunities than ever.
One of the most important characteristics a coach can have, in my opinion, is that a coach is somebody who has “walked the path”. He or she has put in the work and knows first-hand what the client is going through. AI will never be able to replicate that.
