What to look for in a Coach?

When you are in the market for a new Coach there are a few things to keep in mind. A Coach should be someone who you can trust, who will be honest with you, who will support you and who will help you find yourself. If your Coach only knows how to tell you what you need to be doing, you hired a dictator, not a Coach. If your Coach doesn’t adjust training based on what’s going on in your life, or help you address other areas of your life, then all you have is a template program, not something tailored to you.

It is my opinion that a good Coach:

  • Is biased enough to have confidence in what he'/she believes. But is unbiased enough to be able to adjust prescriptions when they’re not working.

  • Is able to create a deep and meaningful connection with you.

  • Care about your true goals and desires and doesn’t try to tell you “what you should care about”.

  • Is available to make time for you when you need it.

  • Educate you on WHY you are doing what you’re doing, not just tell you what your program entails.

  • Encourages you to use your Fitness outside of the gym and doesn’t make it all about your lifts and PRs.

Obviously there are a few more things you would want in a Coach, but this is a pretty good start and most Coaches cannot even provide these basics. The relationship between the Coach and the client should be a two-way street of growth and support. This is the only way we can make long-lasting changes that impact your life and your life’s PURPOSE.
