The 9 Pillars of Health Series: Wisdom

Our most important asset has always been our intelligence.

Technological advancements, understanding nature, cooperating with others, language, mathematics, architecture, music, poetry—all these are possible because of our brainpower. We have an incredible capacity to build and create amazing things, but it all starts with our ability to imagine, wonder, and organize our thoughts.

We all have the potential to positively influence those around us. However, we often fall into the traps and deceptions of social media, streaming services, and the news, spending most of our leisure time mindlessly consuming meaningless entertainment.

This brings me to my second point. One way to stave off neurodegenerative diseases (which are among the leading causes of death and deterioration in the US) is by exercising our cognitive abilities.

Puzzles, chess, art, dancing, poetry, reading, learning—any activity that engages you actively and improves your mental ability falls under this Pillar. Traditionally, as we age, we become the “wise” ones for those around us. Yet, we live in an era where we are dangerously close to losing that wisdom.

So, let’s get thinking! Engage your mind, challenge yourself, and cultivate wisdom. It’s not just about preserving mental health; it’s about enriching your life and the lives of those around you.
